There are so many reasons why you should always take your DSLR photographs in RAW format. Here's a list of why you shouldn't use JPEG and why you should use RAW: 

  1.  A JPEG image is compressed and image information is lost.
  2. Exposure can be adjusted better on a RAW image. 
  3. A RAW image can have the white balance changed.
  4. A RAW image will always be sharper than a JPEG.
There are some situations where it's more okay to use JPEG though:
  1. Your memory card may be too full for large RAW images.
  2. You don't ever process your images.
